Car tax bands
The smaller the C02 emissions that your vehicle generates the less your car tax will cost - motors that pollute the air the least are in the lowest grade called Band A and automobiles that have been proven to pollute the most rest in the highest grade called Band M. Vehicles in Band A do not have to pay road tax. In the main these are electric cars and are exempt from the London congestion charge. Band A cars include the Ford Fiesta ECOnetic, the Vauxhall Corsa ecoFlex, the VW Golf Bluemotion, the Audi A3 Start/Stop 99, the Peugeot 207 Economique and the Ford Fiesta Edge Owners with vehicles in the Band M category have to shell out the most money, which measure up to an annual £450 in some cases. Only cars in Band D and above qualify for 6 months road tax. New cars in Bands A to D will not have to pay for road tax for 12 months - beyond this point vehicle owners will have to pay.
